Knaresborough has been a finalist in Britain in Bloom Before!

From Shirley Thompson, Manor Road, Knaresborough.
I AM sure readers will agree with me that it is wonderful news that Knaresborough
has been selected to take part in the 2012 Britain in Bloom finals as reported
in the Knaresborough Post, January 27 edition, and previously on Radio York.
However, I would like to point out this is not the first time Knaresborough
has been selected.
In 1986-87 when my father, George Cook was Mayor of Knaresborough, he was privileged
to go to London on behalf of the town to receive the prize of a crystal rose
bowl from HRH Princess Anne. This is on show in Knaresborough House in the Council
display cabinet.
The present gardeners of the town, residents, commercial and of course, the
garden employees of the Council all well deserve the present recognition and
hopefully, a representative will soon be heading off to collect their own awards
from Britain in Bloom.
