Knaresborough in Bloom gardens competition launch

Summer is with us and the light nights encourage us all to sit out and enjoy our gardens, whether large or small.
Knaresborough in Bloom is once again holding its gardens competition for the town’s gardeners. So please consider entering your garden into our competition. We have a number of different categories to fit all garden types, whether your garden is a small yard with planters, window boxes and hanging baskets to a larger garden with lawn, pond etc. There is a category for best garden seen from the street as well as a category for best vegetable garden or allotment.
Judging the garden, we award marks for various key items, depending on the type of garden. We award marks for colour, are there lots of colourful and attractive plants? We award marks for cleanliness, is the garden free of weeds, signs of insect damage and dead leaves? We award marks for design, does the garden have attractive paths, screened areas, or wildlife area? We also look out for eco features, such as a “bug hotel”, a compost heap, pond, water butt, bird table, bird boxes etc. Clearly not all these features apply to every garden!
There is also a category for businesses, and for community gardens, so if your church or your sports club has a garden area, it could also be entered.
We also award a certificate for new entries, so if you’ve not entered before please consider entering.
The closing date has been extended to 3rd July and judging will take place on 5th and 6th July.
The awards of certificates and cups takes place at our annual awards evening which is at Knaresborough House on Friday 15th September at 7.30pm.
Entry forms can be downloaded from our website www.knaresboroughinbloom.org.uk or phone 01423 866987 or email cmwillo@yahoo.com.
